Joseph Marsicano, 79, passed away peacefully Sunday morning. Born in Hazleton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Marsicano. Joe was also preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joanne, with whom he is now reunited, and his brother-in-law, Rocco Fallabel.

Surviving are his daughter, Maria Mignogna and her husband, Michael, of Malvern; his cherished grandchildren, Lucia and Michael Mignogna; and his sister, Lorraine Fallabel, of Drums. He also is survived by his aunt, Jennie Stola and numerous cousins.

Joe was a 1968 graduate of Bloomsburg University. He dedicated 37 years to the Hazleton Area School District, spending most of his career as a teacher before later serving as an administrator.

Joe enjoyed gardening and took great pride in planting his impatiens each year. Passersby would often stop to admire the beautiful flowers surrounding his home. More than anything, Joe will be remembered for his patience, kindness, and the warmth he shared with everyone fortunate enough to know him.

He was a devoted husband, a wonderful father, and the very best grandfather his grandchildren could have asked for. Whether he was making pancakes at 6 a.m., painting, reading books, or baking, Joe was a hands-on grandfather who led with love every single day. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered as truly one of a kind.

The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 A.M. on Friday, May 29th, in Our Lady of Peace Parish at Most Precious Blood Church, Hazleton. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 A.M. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Drums.

Those wishing to honor Joe’s memory may make contributions to the Hazleton Salvation Army, 356 W. Broad St., Hazleton, PA 18201.

Joseph A. Moran Funeral Home, 229 W. 12th St., Hazleton, is entrusted with the arrangements.

I am deeply saddened to hear of Joe’s passing. I will always cherish the wonderful memories I have of your father. He was a wonderful, kind and caring person. Joe was a very talented man. I always admired his beautiful garden and what an outstanding chef he was in the kitchen.
I worked with Joe at school and in after school program. He always worked well with students with so much patience and understanding. Joe always brought so much joy and laughter to the classes.
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

We are so sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He was a wonderful person and I enjoyed working with him at Arthur St. So talented at everything he did, he even loaned us his beautiful impatiens to line the walkway at our backyard wedding. Our hearts go out to you with deepest sympathy.

Am deeply saddened to hear of Joe’s passing and offer my sincere condolences to his daughter and family. I was a student teacher with Joe at Arthur St. in the early 70’s. He taught me so much and was a born teacher. While I ultimately chose another profession for my life’s work, a beautiful paperweight he gifted me at graduation was on each work desk through my career to remind me to always do my best.

Sande and I want to offer our deepest condolences on the loss of your Father.  Knew him for over 70 yrs, cut his hair for around 45 yrs.  He was a wonderful and caring man and a good friend.  RIP JOE !!
